In this course, basic aspects of preparation, bending, temporization, and laboratory aspects of porcelain veneers are discussed and clinical procedures of forming and polishing of composite veneers will be talked about and compared to porcelain veneers, from the standpoint of tooth preservation, longevity, and fees involved in both procedures.

9 am – 10 am: basics of materials composites, bending, porcelain and resin cement – Dr. Ali Shakib
10:30 am – 12 pm: composite veneers techniques, pros, and cons – Dr. Ebrahim Aminsalehi
1 pm – 3 pm: porcelain veneers to prep or not to prep that is the question – Dr. Farokh Asefzadeh
3 pm – 4 pm: technical aspects of Emax restoration a hands-on approach – Mr. David More

Course Aim & Objectives

Introduction of porcelain veneers
Appropriate treatment planning for porcelain veneers
The clinical protocol for veneer fabrication including tooth
preparation, temporization, impression, and veneer cementation
Follow-up and Failure approaches

to create:

An awareness and understanding of the various treatment options available for a variety of composite veneers cavity presentations.
An understanding of the relation between the different presentations and the technique indicated.
Awareness of different types of dental materials and instruments used.
Choose the best material for each case presentation.
Hands-On experience with a variety of cases, materials, and techniques.
The ability to troubleshoot and rectify common issues related to the use of each material & technique mentioned in the course.

Course Outcomes

to be able to distinguish different cases in aesthetic dentistry
having the knowledge to prepare different types of teeth (diastema and spacings, crowding, short teeth,...)
to be able to properly cement porcelain veneers
troubleshooting and repairing of porcelain veneers

Ability to clinically manage/treat Composite veneers cavities
ranging from minor incisal edge chipping to cases involving loss of substantial tooth structure like fractures.
Ability to use single-opacity composites in a layered technique.
Ability to use multi-opacity composites.
Ability to combine the use of flowable composites with restorative composites.
Ability to use both total and self-etch bonding systems.
Ability to accurately match a shade.
Ability to finish and polish a restoration to anesthetic and natural gloss and contour.

Instructor Bio

Dr. Farokh Assefzadeh

DDS, MS in Restorative & Esthetic Dentistry

Dr. Assefzadeh received his DDS and MS in Restorative and Esthetic dentistry from Tehran University and has 25 years of experience practicing cosmetic dentistry.

Past Chairman of Restorative Dept., Shahid Dental School and has won three national research awards. He is the author of three books in Restorative Dentistry and is a very skilled and passionate lecturer and is the Instructor of International Center for Dental Education (Ivoclar Vivadent) in Iran. He was the chairman of the 9th Congress of Cosmetic & Restorative Dentistry in 2008.

Dr. Ali Shakib

DDS, MS in Restorative & Esthetic Dentistry

Dr. Ali Shakib received his DDS and MS in restorative and esthetic dentistry from Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran. Having the experience of 23 years in Esthetic dentistry, He is a former assistant professor in Shahed dental school , Tehran - Iran, department of restorative and esthetic dentistry for 10 years.

At his private practice in Toronto, Brookdale Dentistry, he is known for esthetic and cosmetic dentistry. He passed all Canadian dental equivalency exams with high scores and is one of the instructors for EverSmiles’ Clinical Skills training course and provides lectures on Esthetic and Cosmetic dentistry.

Dr. Ebrahim Aminsalehi

DDS, MS in Operative & Restorative Dentistry

Dr. Ebrahim Aminsalehi graduated from Shahid Beheshti Dental School in 1991 and completed a speciality program in restorative dentistry in 1995. He was an assistant professor of the university since 1995 and is proud to have taught many dentists in Iran while being a member of the Association of Iranian Restorative and Cosmetic Dentistry. He has given more than a hundred lectures at various dental conferences and written dental articles in the field of restorative and cosmetic dentistry in prestigious scientific journals.

His titles in Iranian Association of Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry are as follows:

Chairman of the Iranian Association of Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry.
Member of the Board of Directors and Secretary of the Iranian Association of Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry.
Chairman of the Eleventh Congress of the Iranian Association of Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry.
Executive Secretary of the 9th Congress of the Iranian Association of Cosmetic and Restorative. Dentistry
Scientific secretary of the 6th Congress of the Iranian Association of Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry.

Also he has held many courses in the field of ceramic and composite restorations as executive manager and trainer. Now he is working in his private office in Toronto.
